Set in the heart of Touraine, the Loire Valley’s “Garden of France,” Château de la Bourdaisière is surrounded by one of the country’s most enchanting landscapes. This region is known for its fairytale châteaux and world-class wines. The Loire and Cher rivers have long nourished its land and culture.

Just 15 minutes away, the city of Tours offers cobblestone streets, medieval houses, old churches, a famous cathedral and a vibrant culinary scene. To the west lie the wine towns of Chinon and Saumur; to the east, Amboise, once home to Leonardo da Vinci. Winding country roads connect storybook villages and sweeping river views at every turn.

Whether for a weekend or a longer stay, we hope you’ll explore the many treasures within a short drive of the château.

Wines of the Region

Touraine is a wine lover’s dream, offering everything from bright whites and earthy reds to delicate sparkling wines. Many of the vineyards are located along the riverbanks, where the microclimate creates ideal growing conditions.

 

  • VOUVRAY  – Just 10 minutes from the château, Vouvray is known for its expressive Chenin Blanc wines and atmospheric cave tastings.

  • MONTLOUISE-SUR-LOIRE – Across the Loire from Vouvray, this lesser-known gem offers biodynamic wines in a relaxed setting.

  • DOMAINE HUET & CHÂTEAU MONCONTOUR – Two excellent local wineries offering tastings and beautiful views.

  • CHINON & SAUMUR – Head west to enjoy bold Cabernet Francs and visit wine cellars carved directly into the limestone hillsides.

Châteaux & Cultural Sites

No visit to the Loire Valley is complete without stepping into a few of its castles and historic landmarks:
 

  • CHÂTEAU DE CHENONCEAU – An elegant Renaissance château that stretches across the River Cher, famed for its floral gardens and romantic architecture.

  • CHÂTEAU DE VILLANDRY – A feast for the eyes, Villandry’s meticulously designed gardens are considered among the finest in Europe.

  • CHÂTEAU D’AMBOISE – Overlooking the Loire, this royal residence is where Leonardo da Vinci spent his final years.

​​

  • CLOS LUCÉ – Just down the hill from Amboise, this manor was da Vinci’s last home and features interactive displays of his inventions.

​​

  • CHÂTEAU DE CHAUMONT-SUR-LOIRE – Perched above the Loire, this striking castle also hosts an annual International Garden Festival, showcasing contemporary landscape art.

  • ABBAYE DE FONTEVRAUD – Slightly west of the main cluster of châteaux, this vast and hauntingly beautiful abbey is the burial place of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Richard the Lionheart.

Activities & Adventures

From biking along rivers to exploring medieval towns, the Loire Valley offers countless ways to experience its beauty and charm.

  • CYCLE ALONG THE LOIRE À VÉLO – This scenic bike route hugs the rivers and weaves through vineyards, castles, and postcard-perfect towns.
     

  • CANOE UNDER CHÂTEAU DE CHENONCEAU – One of the most unforgettable ways to experience the region: rent a canoe and glide down the River Cher, paddling underneath the iconic arches of Château de Chenonceau. It’s a peaceful, magical vantage point that few visitors get to see.
     

  • EXPLORE OLD TOWN TOURS – Lose yourself in the winding streets, visit bustling markets, and linger in leafy squares.
     

  • LOCAL MARKET DAYS – Local markets in Amboise, Chinon, and Tours offer everything from fresh produce and pastries to antiques and artisan goods.
